EDITING

As they say, written work is only as good as its editor. Help is at hand for whatever degree of editing services you require for your book, academic article, report, proposal, website text, or blog.

THE EDITING PROCESS

There are three distinct levels of editing, from light to heavy. If you’re unsure about the extent of editing your project requires, I’d be more than happy to discuss this with you. Editing rates are charged per word in USD, and two rounds of feedback are included.

If you would like me to cast my eyes over your written work, please email me with the nature of your book, article, or text, word count, and, where possible, attach the actual work to the message (Google Doc is preferred). Once we agree on rates, timings, and the level of editing required, a 50% deposit is required and payment may be made with Revolut (preferred), PayPal, Wise, or bank transfer.

PROOFREADING

Anyone who’s ever written anything knows that proofreading is crucial for a gratifying final draft. Proofreading is the final polish and last stage of the editing process, where an editor lends their watchful eye over your grammar, punctuation, stylistic consistency, word usage, and spelling. I abhor typos, so let me help you annihilate them.

LINE EDITING

Oh no! The main character starts off being called Christian, but you refer to him as Edward in chapter two. Continuity errors diminish the credibility of your written work like no man’s business, and nobody wants that, right? Line editing examines consistency and continuity, clarity, flow, overused words, and sentence structure. In a nutshell, it reviews whether your message is being effectively relayed, which ultimately is your goal.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

Also known as substantive editing, this is an in-depth look at the big picture of your work, leaving no stone unturned. With your intended audience in mind, it’s an audit of general organisation, consistency of voice, readability, language issues, transitions, character development, marketability, major inconsistencies, plot holes, and factuality. As such, additional research may be involved. Developmental editing ensures that all pieces of the puzzle really are intact.
