Carillon Miami Wellness Resort review: AI mattresses and daily ice chambers
Carillon Miami Wellness Resort video tour by Rosie Bell
1) The backstory
Miami, Florida’s glitzy party capital, isn’t the most obvious solo travel wellness destination. Still, I recently headed there for a four-night, five-day Serenity & Renewal retreat at Carillon Miami, a stunning wellness resort and member of The Leading Hotels of the World. From tango and Kukuwa African dance to barre and climbing a two-story indoor rock wall, Carillon Miami is essentially Disneyland for wellness enthusiasts.
The former Canyon Ranch and Spa was rebranded as the 150-key Carillon Miami in 2015 and has since become the go-to luxury wellness destination for mind, body, and soul work in North Miami Beach.

2) The rooms
At Carillon Miami, guests can choose between one or two-bedroom apartment-like suites, each thoughtfully designed with a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living area, and a luxurious bathroom featuring granite countertops, a soaking tub, and a walk-in rain shower. There are city or ocean views, with options for king-size or queen-size beds.
I was in suite number 1012 and the space exuded tranquility, with floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room flooding it with natural light. I enjoyed ocean views on my delightful balcony where I started my days with a cup of tea watching the crashing waves (which I could hear from my bed).

In-suite amenities include Nespresso machines, complimentary natural electrolyte water in refillable bottles, two 49-inch flat-screen HDTVs, iPad guides, and sustainably sourced Corc yoga mats. The roomy apartments start at 720 square feet (67 square meters) and all have state-of-the-art Bryte Balance Smart Beds. What are these, you ask?
In the quest for the perfect night’s sleep, all the accommodations at Carillon Miami have innovative AI-powered Bryte mattresses. Each mattress is equipped with 90 intelligent cushions that adaptively respond to and alleviate pressure points, ensuring optimal comfort. Additionally, they track your sleep patterns and provide detailed statistics and insights, which are displayed on the iPad beside your bed in the morning. This was my first time sleeping on a smart bed and it was nothing short of magnificent.

It seems entirely logical, doesn’t it? The fundamental function of a hotel is to provide a place to sleep. And few experiences compare to sinking into a freshly made, smooth hotel bed after an action-packed day. Better still if that bed feels like being on a flying magic carpet, especially when lying flat on your back.
3) Food & drink
With all the buzz about fitness and well-being, you might think the dining options would take a back seat at Carillon Miami—but think again. You can savor Mediterranean dishes at The Strand with both indoor and outdoor seating, dine poolside at Seaglass Café, or indulge in modern French fine dining at the Michelin-starred Tambourine Room by Tristan Brand. An additional option for guests seeking a quick bite or drink is The Corner Store, which is open daily.

Serenity & Renewal retreat guests get breakfast and lunch included each day, as well as a $200 food and beverage credit that can be used at the restaurant or in the privacy of their luxury apartments.
4) Services & amenities
Carillon Miami boasts an array of remarkable qualifications, truly enough to dazzle. The hotel has four pools, each catering to different moods and times of day. Located near fitness areas, the Sunrise Pool is perfect for early risers. The Sunset Pool on the 6th floor provides shaded relaxation in the mornings and sun-soaked afternoons with private sunbathing nooks. The Atlantic Pool has a rooftop stone hot tub for ultimate relaxation, while the family-friendly Cabana Pool near the beach offers seamless service from Sea Glass Cafe. For the beachgoers, you’ll find free umbrellas and loungers, and cabanas and daybeds are available for a fee.
Miami by no means lacks destination spas, but Carillon Miami has the largest one in South Florida. The Spa at Carillon Miami is a comprehensive wellness sanctuary that integrates traditional thermo (hot) and cryo (cold) spa services, fitness programs, and medical health offerings under one roof. Spanning an impressive 70,000 square feet, it stands as the largest bi-level indoor/outdoor spa in South Florida. Calling it a “spa” almost doesn’t do it justice.
The 24-hour fitness center, with its panoramic ocean views, has Technogym equipment for comprehensive cardio and strength training. With over 75 fitness classes weekly, tailored to all ages and fitness levels, everyone can find their path to well-being there. Fitness offerings include TRX, total barre, boxing, beach boot camp, killer core, indoor and outdoor yoga, cycling, kettlebells, and the challenge of a two-story indoor rock-climbing wall.

The spa has Miami’s only igloo experience, a traditional Finnish sauna, and a salon, and it curates immersive retreats lasting from one to four days, merging Western medical insights with Eastern holistic practices.

Whereas my previous Miami stays have included the typical bells and whistles in South Beach—cavorting from beach club to pool party to outdoor gig, pricey drinks on Ocean Drive, and getting my steps in while (window) shopping on Collins Avenue—this time around, I swapped laser-filled mega clubs for 1:1 Zumba, aqua dance classes, Prism Light Therapy, and a host of avant-garde wellness modalities that were part of my four-night Serenity & Renewal retreat.
I traded frozen cocktails for daily full-body electric cryotherapy in an ice chamber that dropped as low as -275°F, and it gave me a high that no tipple ever could. I regularly went to bed at the not-so-rock’n’roll hour of 10 PM as I was eager to live the dream in that AI-powered bed in my suite which literally gently rocked me awake at a prescribed time along with soothing sounds.

Carillon Maimi has the Somadome, the world’s first technology-enabled meditation pod.
All my experiences were sublime, and I relished the opportunity to meet a who’s who of lovely wellness professionals. Deeply insightful Kim, who administered my ginger scrub and 50-minute facial, was my favorite. By the end of our last session (which I was terribly sad to leave), she had a nickname for me: “goddess friend.” As part of the retreat, I was able to choose a 50-minute personal training session and I opted for a private Zumba class with a sprightly instructor who was just a dream to dance and laugh with.
My Himalayan salt stone massage was with another lovely gentleman who boldly declared that this was going to be the best massage of my life before we even walked into the room. I also strived to attend as many Reformer Pilates classes as possible and got solid tips to improve my technique and posture on the machine. The morning aqua cycle and ballet also stand out as memorable group fitness classes I took.
What I found exceptional about Carillon Miami was the all-you-can-eat buffet of wellness offerings tucked sufficiently far enough from the temptations of South Beach. Carillon Miami’s promise is compelling: “Come as you are, leave as you’ve never been.” It’s a bold statement that proved apt in my case.
During this stay, which gave me a whole new view of Miami, I shed pounds, got some much-needed shut-eye, discovered new ways to take care of my body beyond the retreat, reassessed my well-being priorities, and I left feeling like a superstar—and even bumped into one in the lobby on my way out.
5) Style, decor & character
The interiors, with gentle lighting, shimmering mosaics, and oceanic hues, create a sanctuary where the stresses of the world seem to melt away.
To ensure a peaceful atmosphere, Carillon Miami restricts cell phone use in specific areas: all restaurants, treatment zones, the wellness spa (including fitness sections), the hotel health center, the salon, and the Atlantic Pool.

6) Location & nearby sights
It doesn’t hurt that Carillon Miami is right on the doorstep of a gorgeous stretch of white sand. Located on North Miami Beach, where quiet reigns supreme, it’s removed from the tourist attractions of South Beach, though they are within reach. You can grab a cab there or rent one of the hotel’s cruiser bikes and take the scenic beach pathway leading to South Pointe Pier.
With so many activities clamoring for my attention, I almost never left the hotel, but this southbound bike ride—taking in parks and Miami’s iconic colorful lifeguard towers—was one for the books.

7) Who it’s right for & what to pack
Rejuvenation-seeking travelers will feel right at home here. You’ll meet off-duty celebs, fitness-focused couples, and people who can’t fathom being bored on holiday. If you’re looking for a do-nothing-all-day type of trip, this isn’t it.
Pack chic exercising garb and plenty of it. You’ll be getting creative with your workouts and regularly working up a sweat, so you’ll need a suitable collection of stylish gear.
