Bristol Panama, a Registry Collection Hotel review: a chic stay in the heart of Panama’s financial district
1) The backstory
Opened in 1997 in the heart of Panama City’s banking district, Bristol Panama, a Registry Collection Hotel, has built a quiet reputation for polished, seamless service. It caters to a well-heeled clientele passing through Panama’s economic center and joined Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ Registry Collection Hotels brand in 2021.
2) The rooms
Despite being in the hustle and bustle of Panama City’s financial district, you won’t hear a peep from your room, as the windows are double-glazed. In accordance with Panamanian law, all rooms are non-smoking and there’s a laundry service as well as 24-hour in-room dining. Egyptian cotton sheets are standard in the rooms, which all have delightful bathrobes that guests often ask to buy. The entry-level rooms are Deluxe Rooms of 431 square feet with double or king beds. Tower Premier (1064 square feet) is the top room category with a separate kitchen. Choose this room on the 12th floor to be able to watch TV from the comfort of your bathtub.

3) Food & drink
I was particularly excited about dining at Bristol’s trademarked Salsipuedes restaurant. “Sal si puedes” means “get out if you can” in Spanish, and the name harks back to a once-chaotic street in Casco Viejo, Panama’s old town, which previously enjoyed a boisterous and menacing reputation. The cuisine and beverages incorporate local ingredients and derive inspiration from the land. The restaurant brings back Panama City’s Casco Viejo of yesteryear through vintage photography and vibrant art. Casco Viejo is the historic quarter of Panama City, where old and new collide, with string-lit walkways and beautiful balconies existing alongside crumbling structures. Salsipuedes embodies that old feeling of Casco with an attractive, modern twist.

4) Services & amenities
Bristol Panama offers several meeting and event spaces suited to corporate gatherings, while 24-hour room service caters to travelers running on any timetable. For downtime, guests gravitate toward the hotel’s modest but welcome pool terrace, where a narrow pool and open-air relaxation area offer relief from Panama City’s intense tropical heat. There is a well-equipped and spacious gym with complimentary water, fruit, and magazines for your reading pleasure post-workout. Evenings are lively at the lobby bar, which suits and ties flock to after meetings.

The most decadent corner of the hotel sits high above the city on the 25th floor: The Spa at Bristol Panama, which delivers sweeping views toward the Pacific Ocean on one side and Panama’s Metropolitan Park on the other. On opposite sides of the spa are separate male and female steam rooms and relaxation areas, each with its own distinct skyline view.

This hotel is international in a Panamanian way. Attentively infused into each aspect of their aesthetic is a hint of Panamanian culture, right from the spa to the catering and décor. Customers declare that Bristol Panama invokes a gallery-like feeling through the elegant paintings that stylishly adorn the walls of every look and corner with works from Panamanian and Latin artists. A neutral colour palette runs through the property, from top to bottom.

The hotel’s location places it within walking distance of several of the area’s key landmarks and business corridors, including Iglesia del Carmen, Calle Uruguay, Via España, and Calle 50.
